Poet in Residence 2011-12

Baz Productions

We are a London based theatre company. Our work comes out of the process we have developed of training actors together in responsiveness, physical engagement and verse speaking. We take our inspiration from the world of sport, and aim to create projects that engage theatre audiences as a sporting event engages its crowd. In October 2011 we will be producing our first project, Macbeth, for three weeks in the crypt of St Andrew, Holborn.

Poet in Residence

BAZ are looking for a poet to work with. We are inviting participants to submit poems that comply with a set of ‘rules’. Our actors in BAZ are often given challenges in this way, i.e. to complete a task with a series of ‘obstacles’ that become our rules of play. We have found that these boundaries often result in creative, innovative ways of thinking and would love to see if the same is true for poets.

The winning entry will establish the writer as the Poet in Residence for Baz Productions. The poem will be:

  • Published in the programme for Macbeth
  • On display in our exhibition space in the crypt for the entire run of the play
  • Published on our blog and our social media followers (over 500) will be encouraged to read it

The Poet in Residence will also produce three more poems during the year, ending in September 2012, in response to events in Baz Productions calendar. These poems will be also be published online.

  1. Sounds wonderful. Does the poet need to actually live in London or could they be someone who sometimes works there, but lives elsewhere?

    • Hi Jo, the poet can live anywhere at all, that’s absolutely fine! Thanks, Baz
